If your dog is sniffing your genital area, it doesn’t always mean something is wrong—but it may be trying to tell you something. Dogs experience the world through their extraordinary sense of smell, which is estimated to be tens of thousands of times more powerful than that of humans. They naturally investigate areas of the body that produce stronger scents, including the groin, because these regions contain sweat glands that release unique chemical compounds.
In many cases, this behavior is completely normal. Your dog may simply be gathering information about you or someone it has just met. Changes in hormones, hygiene products, perfumes, or even the clothes you are wearing can make certain scents more noticeable to a dog. This is why some dogs become especially interested in pregnant women, people who have recently exercised, or individuals returning home after spending time around other animals.
