In rare cases, frequent unexplained bruising may be associated with disorders affecting blood clotting or the bone marrow. Conditions such as leukemia, lymphoma, severe liver disease, or platelet disorders may cause bruises to appear more easily because the body's ability to produce or use blood cells is impaired. However, bruising alone is not enough to diagnose these illnesses. Doctors evaluate a combination of symptoms, physical examination findings, blood tests, and sometimes imaging studies before reaching any conclusion.
