A neighborhood dispute in Perth, Australia, gained international attention after vegan massage therapist Cilla Carden took her neighbors to court over the smell of their barbecues, cigarette smoke, and the noise from children playing basketball. Carden claimed the ongoing disturbances made it impossible for her to enjoy her backyard, describing the situation as emotionally exhausting and saying she struggled to sleep because of it.
Carden said the barbecue was positioned so that the smell of cooking fish drifted directly into her property. Believing the actions were intentional, she filed complaints against her neighbors. After her claims were dismissed, she appealed to the Supreme Court of Western Australia, but the appeal was also rejected.
