Signs of Pancreatic Cancer You Should Never Ignore

Pancreatic cancer is often called a "silent disease" because it may not cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages. By the time many people realize something is wrong, the disease has already progressed, making early awareness more important than ever. While these symptoms can also be caused by many other, less serious conditions, it's important not to ignore persistent or unusual changes in your health.

One of the earliest warning signs is persistent abdominal pain that may spread to the back. The discomfort can come and go at first, but it often becomes more frequent over time. Some people notice that the pain gets worse after eating or when lying down.

Another common symptom is unexplained weight loss. Losing weight without changing your diet or exercise routine should never be ignored, especially if it's accompanied by a loss of appetite or ongoing fatigue.

Jaundice, which causes yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, is another possible warning sign. It can also be accompanied by dark urine, pale-colored stools, and itchy skin. This happens when the tumor blocks the bile duct, preventing bile from flowing normally.

Many people also experience digestive problems, including nausea, vomiting, bloating, or difficulty digesting fatty foods. Because the pancreas helps produce enzymes needed for digestion, problems with this organ can affect how your body processes food.

Extreme fatigue is another symptom that should not be overlooked. Feeling exhausted for weeks despite getting enough rest may be your body's way of signaling that something isn't right.

Some people develop new-onset diabetes, especially after the age of 50, without any obvious risk factors. In some cases, this may be associated with pancreatic disease and should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
