The Truth Behind a Pet Python’s Strange Behavior: A Warning About Reptiles at Home

Whether large reptiles can safely coexist with humans in a domestic environment has long been debated. The story of a young woman and her python, named Safran because of the golden spots that adorned her scales, became a shocking lesson in the real risks of keeping wild animals as pets, even when they seem docile and accustomed to people.

An apparently peaceful coexistence

Safran came into the young woman’s life three years ago and quickly earned a special place in the home. Its owner was convinced that the snake was tame, affectionate and incapable of causing her harm. Despite constant warnings from her relatives, who insisted that she was a natural predator, she responded with a smile: “It’s calm. He loves me and would never hurt me.”

During the first years, the relationship between the two seemed to confirm that belief. The python allowed itself to be manipulated, was calm and was part of the daily routine of the house. However, as time went by, disturbing signs began to appear that the young woman, at first, interpreted as signs of affection.
