The veterinarian was direct: it was an adult female, strong and capable enough to stop a person’s breathing. Although rare, there are documented cases of fatal attacks by domestic pythons on their caregivers. The recommendation was categorical: strict isolation, immediate change of diet and, preferably, deliver the animal to a specialized center that same day.
The difficult final decision
The veterinarian’s words fell like a bucket of cold water. That night, the young woman sat on the edge of the bed and watched as Safran slowly slipped over the sheets. At one point, the snake adopted the same position as always: a ring around its body. Only this time, she was not sleeping and was fully aware of what it meant.
